Sangha Silent Retreat - 21-24 Nov 2024
Join us for a silent retreat at The Dharma Centre of Canada (Kinmount, ON) on the theme "Cultivating the conditions for letting go" and take part in extended periods of sitting and walking meditation. Instructions will be given by members of The Buddhist Place.
Silence and sense restraint offer us an opportunity to deepen our practice by reducing the distractions that encourage our minds to wander. For this reason, we ask participants not to communicate with each other and to refrain from reading or listening to music for the duration of the retreat. Similarly, we ask that you refrain from wearing perfumes, eye-catching jewelry, and watches with alarms. We will also ask you to leave your phone in your car. This vow of silence will be lifted on Sunday morning, at which point there will be opportunity to reflect and share experiences with your fellow meditators.
All meals will be vegetarian. If you have food allergies or specific food requirements, please let us know when you register for the retreat, and we will endeavour to accommodate you. Please also let us know if you have any mobility issues.
The cost of the retreat is $400.
Opportunities to carpool may be available.
We understand that the cost of a retreat can be prohibitive in some cases. There is a place in the application form to indicate if this cost would cause financial hardship and to indicate how much you are able to contribute. We will attempt to accommodate such cases as best we can with available bursary funds. At the same time, if you are in a situation where you can contribute funds to The Buddhist Place to support bursaries, your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please indicate this in your application (a tax receipt will be issued).
